Who Is Madam Sarah?

"Madam Sarah" is the affectionate term for the women who form the backbone of Haiti's informal economy. They are the machann โ€” the market women, street vendors, and small-scale traders who keep their communities fed, clothed, and connected.

These women carry the weight of their families and communities on their shoulders, often working from dawn to dusk with limited resources, no formal support, and little recognition. Yet they persist with remarkable resilience and ingenuity.

This program is named in their honor. It recognizes that when we invest in women like Madam Sarah โ€” with training, resources, and holistic support โ€” we invest in the entire community's future.
